Whilst getting some sun on your skin has huge health benefits, especially for psoriasis, sun safety is still incredibly important. For example, around 15 minutes of sunshine twice a week will provide the average person with enough Vitamin D. So we need to remember to be armed with our favourite sun cream to cover up once we have reaped the sun’s benefits.

When you have sensitive skin finding the right sun cream is often a struggle, finding something without nasty chemicals that actually works.  Unlike synthetic “UV Filter” sun creams that “absorb high energy UV radiation and emit low energy radiation”, natural sun creams either use Zinc Oxide or Titanium Dioxide to create a barrier to reflect UVA and UVB away. Below we have detailed some of our favourites that are gentle on skin and as natural as possible…

MooGoo Natural Sunscreen SPF 30 Cover Up Buttercup SPF 15 best sun cream for sensitive skin psoriasis and eczema

MooGoo, NATURAL SUNSCREEN SPF 30 120g - £16.50

MooGoo are a go-to in our household for all things skincare - from natural deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, moisturiser and sun cream. Established in Australia in 2005, dairy farmer Craig Jones noticed his mother using “udder cream” (normally used to keep the cows soft and supple for milking!) on her psoriasis. Although it seemed to be helping, Craig knew he could improve this thick and greasy formula and “MooGoo” was born! Nearly 20 years on, MooGoo is now sold worldwide and has expanded to over 40 products. However, their philosophy still remains the same, “to make effective products using healthy ingredients, that we are comfortable using on ourselves and our loved ones”. Read more about their story here.

We love using MooGoo’s “Natural Sunscreen” as, unlike some other natural alternatives with ingredients that lend themselves to fabric staining, the formula is lovely and milky in colour and rubs in like a moisturiser to leave a clear finish. Using only naturally derived Zinc to provide broad spectrum sun protection took MooGoo four years to achieve. This labour of love has created a brilliant water-resistant sun cream that can be used on both body and face (without the risk of breakouts!) and is a firm Solpardus favourite.

Pai British Summer Time natural sun cream best for sensitive skin psoriasis and eczema

Pai, BRITISH SUMMER TIME SPF 30 40ml - £29

British skincare brand Pai is on a mission to “do the right thing for you and your skin”. Formulated and manufactured in their London headquarters, founder Sarah Brown set to create a skincare brand that would suit her sensitive skin, “skincare made with effective, organic ingredients”. We have a few Pai favourites at Solpardus and their suncream is definitely on that list!

Pai point out that 50% of their customers have reacted negatively to SPF in the past. From causing breakouts of acne to aggravating psoriasis and eczema, it’s easy to see why people often try to avoid putting suncream on their face altogether. Fast absorbing and non-greasy, “British Summer Time” is the perfect choice to go under your makeup. The 40ml size not only goes a long way on your face but is also the perfect travel size for a handbag. Pai’s reef-friendly formula offers broad spectrum protection using natural Zinc Oxide and cotton extract then helps the skin to recover from any damage caused by UVA, UVB, Infra-Red and visible radiation.

Green People Natural Sun Scent Free Sun Cream SPF 30 best sun cream for sensitive skin psoriasis and eczema

Green People, SCENT FREE SUN CREAM SPF 30 100ML - £19.50

Another go-to Solpardus favourite has to be Green People’s “Scent Free Sun Cream”. Named as The Mail’s best environmentally friendly sun cream in 2022 it’s not hard to see why so many people rave about this cream.

We love Green People’s sun cream for its smooth application, grease-free formula and how well it keeps skin moisturised. We’d also like to give an honourable mention to their “Hydrating After Sun Lotion” - fresh Peppermint and cooling Aloe Vera combine to soothe sun exposed skin, but it’s also a life saver for inflamed psoriasis at anytime of year!

Made with 84% certified organic ingredients, Green People convey not only its benefits for our skin but also keeping our reefs and sea life healthy.

The American “National Ocean Service” point out the sun cream we apply to our skin often contains nasty chemicals that wash off into our seas causing immense damage to wildlife…

  • Impairing the immune and reproductive systems of sea urchins, leading to deformed young
  • Bleaching coral, damaging their DNA, and even killing them altogether
  • Decreasing fertility and reproduction in fish, causing female characteristics in male fish
  • These chemicals can even be accumulated in dolphin tissue and passed on to their young

So it’s not just beneficial to our skin but also our wildlife - plus if those sun creams can cause that much damage do we really want them on our skin anyway…?!

As always, these are just a few of our ’Solpardus Favourites’ that work for us, but we would love to hear any of your recommendations. Do leave a comment in the box below to share your find with the community.
